When Article 12 and Web 2.0 Collide
Clearly the authors of the original Code of Ethics never dreamed that the Code would need to discuss matters such as photo-shopping, domain name registration, advertising on the Web, and certainly not dealing with Facebook, twitter, linked-in, etc. Yet, today’s agent has the opportunity to abide by the Code or find themselves on the wrong side of the Professional Standards Panel. This course is an opportunity to recognize the challenges out there and then adjust your behavior to mirror the Code as well as state license law. What a concept-let’s solve the problem before it becomes one!
- Article 12 Defined and how it applies also to license law
- Realtor® status in ALL advertising, marketing, or other representations
- Communication in any means must identify the agent as a REALTOR® as well as REALTOR® firm
- Obligation to present a true picture…be careful out in the world of photo shop
- Websites of offices and agents must disclose the company name
- Unauthorized framing of other’s websites, manipulating content, or deceptive use of metatags is not allowed
- Selling or sharing of consumer information must be disclosed
- Domain names must be accurate and not misleading
- REALTORS® must preserve the confidential information of their client
